Chess...
Yesterday i went to the largest chess tournament in Malaysia. There were 1000++ participants. Although they did make it into the Malaysia book of records, it surely made it into the participants book of biggest screw-ups.
The tournament is a national level competition and thus there should be an expected standard from the organizers. It was supposed to end at 6, with prize giving and everything done. But, prize giving only started at
10pm!!
The head organizer, was some retiree who had no done anything in years and lacked the experience. I heard that they were supposed to call someone else to organize the competition, and that someone else would have done a fantastic job with smooth coordination and stuff.
The first round was supposed to start at 8.30am...it started at
10 am...!!!!
The opening ceremony was supposed to be at 11 am...after round 3...it started at 11 am...
after round ONE !!!
After that, it was straight 6 rounds of......
disorganization......
Swt.....even my secondary school could manage faster than them....with only 4 people tallying the scores manually and pairing them manually.....
These people used computers and had more than a dozen people tallying scores and doing pairing......and it takes them more than 30 minutes to come out with the next session's pairing.....
what an upset....
Whatever with that competition...at least i got one game that enjoyed alot...sacrifice for control of a line then backrank checkmate! cool! Now i got to train for MEPCO (dunno if i got this shortform right)....lol...
