Musical healing
Have you ever thought about how music gets to your feelings? The best songs that we listen to, are always able to connect to your innermost and deepest feelings. These strong connections are the things that allow musicians us to feel and emote by listening to thier music. Also, it gets them sales that skyrocket through the roof and earns them millions in the process. But, have you ever stopped to look at the type of music that we've been listening to?
Take a look at the MTV music awards, channel V and such, you'll find that the music is all holding the same theme: sadness. Take the chart toppers, especially the alternative music that youths listen to: scars by Papa Roach, wherever you will go by the Calling, bad day by Daniel Powter, you're beautiful by James Blunt, somewhere i belong by Linkin Park, where'd you go by Fort Minor, look what you've done by Jet, wake me up when september ends by Green Day, a reason by Hoobastank, if i let you go by Westlife, The Remedy by Jason Myraz, dani california by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, my happy ending by Avril Lavinge and the list goes on and on. If you've listened to these songs before, it's not a wonder that you're now thinking about the link that they hold. Why have i brought them together? Well...
Firstly, they are all very popular songs amoung the youth. I've not a techno junkie, but i do know that techno offers the same themes. Just think, who do you listen to when you're feeling alone, feeling sad, feeling that you've had such a rotten day, feeling that you just lost the love of your life, feeling that you just want to die, feeling down and lonely, just feeling utterly depressed...
The answer is: music. Why? It's spelled all over those songs. Check out the lyrics. They all try to convey a message about loss, depair and being lost in feelings and emotion. It's not surprising that many people who listen to their music, get even more in touch with those feelings and get even more deeper into their already sad states. The music industry is being dominated by these heart-wrenching, heart-breaking songs, which if you were to zone out with them, you'd start thinking along those lines.
But, there are always other genres of music, and ones with themes that are on much more cheerful light. Why not try those when you're just feeling sad or dull? A few songs that i'd suggest are: allstar by Smashmouth, mambo no. 5 by Lou Bega and best time of our lives by The Calling. But, they have to be meaningful to you, or else it wont work. Musical healing, i believe, happens when you get a feeling of freedom and exasperation from what you're listening to. Make sure it connects to you and you feel deeply for what the song's trying to tell you. Let the music heal your soul!
Best of luck to you all =)
